LKL Farming run a herd of high welfare outdoor pigs near Retford, Notts. The progeny from this herd are transferred to finishing accommodation at 28 days. The finisher pigs are housed in a selection of straw yards and, more recently, on a free-range outdoor site with tented accommodation.
All the wheat produced by the arable farm is compounded externally into feed for the pigs.
The aim of LKL Farming's pig enterprise is to produce high quality finished pigs via a system which is welfare friendly from start to finish.
A pig production manager has overall responsibility for the entire pig enterprise, with a unit manager responsible for the day to day running of the breeding herd.
